Early Years Foundation Stage

Our Early Years team within the federation are passionate about ensuring that the children at this stage of development are given the opportunity to learn freely and independently and through a variety of many different inspiring child and adult led learning activities in the 'continuous provision' using Development Matters as a key tool. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework (EYFS) in Little Roots Pre-School on the Stoke St Michael Site and both Reception cohorts in the Acorns classrooms in both schools. Reception share large areas, indoors and outdoors with the Key Stage One children but this doesn't stop them from being able to learn in a way that is appropriate for their age group and brings many advantages. From September 2021, we will have implemented the changes to the framework and our practise will reflect the new statutory Early Years Foundation Stage Framework published in March 2021.

Key Stage One

Our Key Stage One Curriculum, for Years One and Two, has been designed and adapted by our federation teachers who have ensured 'pupil engagement' is the core emphasis of the planning and delivery. With these two year rolling plans, we are committed to delivering the children, in an inspiring way, the whole of the Key Stage One National Curriculum and more. We teach the individual subjects in their own right whilst hooking the children into their learning through a relevant, thematic and hands on approach. Our aim is to link the children's learning to exciting experiences inside and outside of the classroom in order for them to be intrinsically motivated from within so that the children can build on their own learning year after year.
