Lunches at Croscombe

Children all eat their meals together in the Hall. Younger children have a little less time in class than Key Stage Two, so they start their lunch break a little earlier. Children can choose their meals in advance using the menus below. They can "dip" in and out of taking hot meals according to taste. All children from Reception to Year 2 receive free hot school meals.  All of our children eat together in the Hall, so it makes no social difference whether they eat hot meals or bring sandwiches.

Our school meals are provided from New Manor Farm in Witham Friary.

“We pride ourselves on the quality of the food on the menu and encourage the children to experience a variety of different meals from traditional favourites through to curries and Chinese savoury rice. We cook every meal from scratch daily and with one exception, Fish fingers and baked beans , we rarely use anything pre-made

Where at all possible our produce is purchased locally.  We use a butcher from Bruton that specialises in free range, organic meat. This ensures that the meat used is a high animal welfare, quality product. Our fruit and vegetables are bought weekly from the Saturday market in Frome. This enables us to use fresh fruit and to treat the children to varied seasonal fruit and even regular local strawberries in the summer. Local Cheddar is sourced from Wyke farms based in Wyke Champflower.

Our goal is to provide meals that conform to the Schools Food Trust guidelines and more importantly food that your children enjoy. We are in the process of applying for our menu and meals to be endorsed by the Schools Food Trust. This is something that most larger School Meal Providers avoid as the costs of preparing food according to the guidelines can be more expensive. However, as we buy locally on the market and from our butcher the standards are much easier to achieve and just require effort and trusted partnerships.

New Dishes are often added each half term and we would encourage your children to try them at least once and we are always appreciative of feedback; good or bad. It is important to us that your children eat and enjoy the meals provided so if we need to change a dish or take it off the menu we will always listen and take onboard your comments. Our email is:”
