Kite Delight!

Mathematics, design and science - as well as lots of fun!

The children spent a very absorbing lesson learning about, designing and making kites, which they then got to fly in our beautiful playing field. Their immersion in the project helped them to ‘get a feel’ for mathematics and to see it as a real part of everyday living without even noticing the geometry they were learning!

The process of kite making involves planning, measuring, listening, learning and taking part. It requires concentration, and often succeeds in capturing the attention of pupils who have struggled to engage in other activities. Pupils often don't realise how much they are learning through the process until the kite is flying!

This 'Learning Without Walls' activity definitely left everyone 'flying high'!
